Welcome to a very short Spring half term for Year 1 & 2. Just four weeks long, this half term is going to be incredibly busy as we lead up to Easter.
Dates for the diary
This Wednesday the children will attend their first swimming lesson at New Mills Leisure Centre. Please make sure your child has their kit with them when they arrive in school on Wednesday (and make sure it goes home with them again at the end of the day!).
This Thursday is the nationwide ‘World Book Day’ where we celebrate books and authors in school. This year, the children will be able to come to school dressed in the colours of the South African flag to link with our new focus text ‘Meerkat Mail.’ We are very lucky that this flag has black, yellow, green, red, blue and white to choose from or a little bit of all of them!
This half term’s topic is Mammals and the children will be finding out about different mammals from around the world. We are going to start by looking at mammals at home so if your child would like to bring in photo of their furry friend we would love to see them in class.
Show and tell
Lots of children have started bringing in toys or teddies to show the class. Unfortunately, we often don’t have time to share them with the class each day and some toys are being lost or broken at play times. I think it would be better if toys remained at home however we will always find time to show anything the children have been doing or creating at home. Stories they have written, maths work or artwork will always be shared with the class alongside any achievements (medals, trophies, certificates etc) that the children have earned outside of school. Thank for your cooperation.
