7th June 2019

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to our Summer newsletter.

This is a really busy term, so please make sure you get our dates for diaries on your calendar.

Holidays in term time
Holidays taken during term time will not be authorized, unless there are exceptional circumstances, and will be subject to penalty notices. The absence is also recorded on your child’s school attendance records as ‘unauthorised absence’.

DDAT news
Our academy trust sponsor, DDAT (Derby Diocesan Academy Trust) conducted a full school review just before half term. This proved to be a very positive day for the school and showed that we are making good progress. This is very encouraging for us as we will have our next OFSTED inspection during the next academic year (at some time from September 2019 to July 2020).

Sports Day
UK sports Coaching are running our Sports Day this year. Parents and family are welcome to come and watch. Children will be in their colour groups and take part in competitive sports on our top playground.   EYFS (Nursery and Reception) will also be joining in this sports day. The date for Sports Day is Monday 24th June with a reserve date of Tuesday 25th June. We will start our sports at 9.30 a.m. and we aim to finish by 11.45 a.m.

As you know, our school is taking part in New Mills Carnival dressing up as ‘1980s disco’. Please meet on Meal Street at 12.30 and note that KS1 (Y1 & 2) and EYFS (Nursery & Reception) children must be accompanied by an adult. KS2 children must be met on the field at 1.30. PTA also have a stall on the field and would welcome help for every half an hour.

School Leavers’ Disco
Our summer leavers’ disco is on Wednesday 17th July 2019. The PTA still need help at the disco for the following:

  • Food & drink stall
  • Glow bracelets stall
  • Entrance door
  • Tattoo stall

Without hep from more parents, this event will not go ahead. We need help at both the KS1 and KS2 discos. Please contact Stuart Broome or a member of staff on the playground if you are able to offer help.

Leavers’ Service
Our leavers’ service will be in Church on Thursday 18th July at 2 p.m. All are welcome, and children can be collected from school early after the service. Please collect children from their classroom.

Phonics Screening Week
Next week is phonic screening week for Y1 children. As stated in Mrs Calvert’s class newsletters, please ensure your Y1 child is in school all week so that they can undertake this assessment.

Bikeability – Y6
Thursday 13th June – all day. In the morning the children in Y6 will be shown how to deal with repairs and in the afternoon they will take part in a Bikeability Transition project. The children will need to bring in their bikes.

As ever headlice are a problem. Please check your child(ren)’s hair every night. If eggs or lice are present treat their hair before you send them into school.

Relief Midday Supervisors/Cleaners
Please contact the office if you would like to be on our list for relief midday supervisor and/or cleaning. The midday supervisor position is 1hr and 25 mins at lunch times and the cleaning position is 2 hrs per session, after school has finished.

School Lunches
Please pay for your child(ren)’s dinners before they have them either in cash or cheque. You can pay daily, weekly, monthly or half termly. Cheques should be payable to St. George’s C E Primary School. If you are struggling to pay for dinners please contact the office. You may be able to apply for free school meals if your income is low; please contact the office in this respect too. Any dinner debt is a debt to the school and leaves less money in the budget for resources for the children.

With thanks for your continued support.

Mandy Brown
