Welcome to Year 1/2.
Here you will find links to our class newsletters, homework and information about events in Year 1/2.
This term the children will begin swimming lessons at New Mills Leisure Centre each Wednesday afternoon. Please make sure your children is wearing clothes that are easy to change in and out of so we recommend trousers or leggings instead of tights and polo shirts rather than formal shirts on swimming days. The children will just need their costume/trunks/shorts and a towel in a separate bag.
We love to read in Year 1/2 and we change our reading books every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We change our library books every Thursday.
We read with our reading buddies each Friday morning.
Parents are also invited into class for story time each Tuesday afternoon 2:55pm.
The children also have spellings to learn and practise at home. Please help your child to learn them each week. They are in homework books but a copy can also be found here.
Our current topic in Year 1/2 is ‘Amazing Africa’ and we will be looking at the continent of Africa before focusing on the country of Kenya. Within this topic we will be looking at African animals, traditional African music, art and how people live.
The key knowledge and vocabulary that your child will learn over the next six weeks is outlined in the knowledge organiser below.
Homework tasks are linked to our topic and should be completed over the half term.
