Newspaper
Some people out of year 3/4 and 5/6 decided to do a newspaper. Its got a lot of fun stuff to do such as puzzles, competitions, fun facts and so on. The newspaper is only 30p. All the money goes towards all the photocopier expenses, so that we can do more newspapers .
The newspaper is very fun and great – we all love being in the group with our co-reporters!

Bob the frog
Bob the frog was a school art project which has everybody’s drawings of bugs all over his green body. We started off with a dull, colourless frog which needed some colour. First, we started painting his horizontally etched pupils ( why did Bob give up teaching? He couldn’t control his pupils!). Next, we started painting his upper body, then his lower body. After that, we began to draw the bugs all over his body, yuck! When we had finished drawing the bugs, we varnished him, and he was finished!! We think he looks awesome!

Big School Breakfast
Today we had a Big School Breakfast at our school. We had to make a name badge with our name on it, and what you wanted to eat – Rice Krispies, Weetabix or Cornflakes, and to drink you could have apple juice, orange juice or water.
On our table was Danika, Jayden, Ewan, Tyler, Pablo, Ruby, Kayleigh and me. It was really fun and it was very busy. Most people had Cornflakes – it was the best thing ever!!!!!!!!
I really enjoyed my Rice Krispies and milk. Vicky helped out. All the staff were there to help out too. I thought they were very good helper-outers! I wish we could do that again, and I look forward to our breakfast club starting after half term!!!!

Education Sunday
On Sunday 5th of February 2012 some children from KS2 went toSt. George’sChurch to sing. They sang two songs called ‘We’re on this road,’ and ‘You are an inspiration.’
All of the children made it except for two because of the snow. It’s a special service because people go there to share the blood and body of Christ. It’s also a special service because our school and our church community join together. Some of the teachers came too. They came up and read out some things from the Gospel.

Y5/6 girls’ football tournament
On the 1st of February 2012 some girls from Y5/6 went to the leisure centre and played 5 games. We got into the semi finals and played against Hague Bar and won, so we went on to the finals. In the final we played against Hayfield. We drew 1-1 so the game went to penalties, where we lost 1-0 LL. After that we had the presentation. We got 2nd place and on the certificate it said ‘Runners up’ so we congratulated the winners, got our coats and went back to school.

Boys football tournament.
Some boys from Y5/6 went to the New Mills boys football tournament, and played for the school. The team was Lukas Stang, Jay Gregory, Christopher Park, Casey-Joe Hunt, Ben Smith, Jake Spencer and Jake Baxter. The team lost the first match, but everyone was eager to win the next, but sadly, it ended 0-0. Our final match we needed the victory, and we won 3-0 and got into the semi-final. Lukas Stang scored a penalty just at the end; which sent us to the final. The team we were playing were very difficult, and sadly, in the end, we lost. However, we all got certificates and we all enjoyed it and had a great time.

Aladdin
Last Thursday 2nd February 2012 all the school went toNewMillsArtTheatre to watch the pantomime Aladdin. We got an ice lolly or an ice cream at the interval and we laughed most of the time at the really funny bits of it. We also saw Mhairi who comes to our school – she dances in the pantomimes; we really liked the kung fu part and the monster mash dance.
We laughed a lot when Wishy-Washy started to sing to a girl who he liked and she liked him too. Everybody liked it very much, and at the end we all had a big scream competition and we won Disley cubs! As well as the screaming, at the end we had a singing competition and we won that too!
For the final part, everybody was nearly dressed in green and they all took a bow. We all went home when our parents came to collect us. We were tired, but had had great fun!

Christmas Fair
On December 9th we had our Christmas Fair. It had lots of stalls and Santa was there too!!
The School Council had a book stall to raise money for a charity called ‘Water Aid’ which helps people who don’t have clean and fresh water. The members of Handicraft Club had been making decorations out of hammer beads for three weeks and these were on sale at the Fair. There was also a Raffle, Christmas tattoos, Tombolas, Face Painting and other fund stuff to win or play with.

The School Council
Children who wanted to be on the School Council were chosen by their class. The School Council members had to make a speech at the start of the school year. We have a Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary. They try and get more equipment for the playground. If there is a problem or an accident on the playground the School Council members will sort it out.
There are 15 children on the Council and we meet on the first Tuesday in every month.
Peer Buddy Training
Peer Buddy Training is about Y5/6 children going on the KS1 or KS2playground helping with KS 1 or KS2. We are there to play with them and care for them. We learnt about buddy training with Mel Marshall, who is a schools’ adviser from Derbyshire. It is great being a Buddy. You wear a yellow band so the children know that you are there for them. You can help other children and if they fall over we will help them and then get them an ice pack.
