Over the past few weeks, children from years 1 to 6 have been taking part in athletic competitions against other schools from the New Mills, Chapel-en-le-Frith and Whaley Bridge areas. All the children that took part were a real credit to St George’s, did their best and had a great time. We are delighted that our Key Stage 1 team returned victorious as area champions beating a number of schools much bigger than ours. Our Key Stage 2 team also performed really well. There are a few photos from the Key Stage 2 event below.
Key Steps has been designed to give children an introduction to gymnastics. Each year, competitions take place around the country for children to show off their skills in floor, vault and body management routines. On 21st March, children in year 1 and year 2 were invited to New Mills Leisure Centre to try a taster session, along with other schools from around New Mills. As you can see from the photographs, they had a great time and were able to show off what they had learnt.
The Department for Education has provided some information for parents on the 2016 national curriculum tests for key stages 1 and 2. This is of interest to parents with children in Year 2 and Year 6.

Today, the junior classes were treated to the dress rehearsal of this year’ infant nativity – A Miracle In Town. Mary, Joseph and all the other usual characters were present in an extravaganza of music, dance and acting. Well done to all the infant children, all of them taking a full and active role in this annual treat.

Today we all thought that we had broken up for the summer already as we were treated to a Summer Holiday worship from Year 1/2. After singing ‘We do like to be beside the seaside’ and ‘Summer holiday’ the children showed us their fabulous seaside paintings and read their amazing seaside poems. Well done to the whole class.
This morning we had a visit from volunteers from the New Mills Heritage Centre. They worked with Year 1/2 and Year 3/4 and taught us about the calico printing presses that used to operate around New Mills. We also had a great time making our own prints.
