8th May 2017

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to our Summer term 1 newsletter. At our recent governing body meeting, the governors agreed to the following classes from September. As you will see Mrs Townsend is not included on this list. This is because Mrs Townsend has regrettably resigned from her position as a teacher at St. George’s in order to pursue another career in a family business. We are really sorry to see her go as she has been a wonderful member of our team for 12 years.

Her dedication and hard work have given our children a good grounding to their education and we all have many fond memories of working with her. I am sure you will all join me in wishing Mrs. Townsend good luck in all she does in the future.

We will be appointing a new teacher during the summer term to teach our Y1/2 class.

Non-uniform days

With the PTA Spring Fair fast approaching, we are also holding non-uniform days on the next 2 Fridays in order to gather items for stalls and tombolas. Your child is welcome to wear non-uniform in exchange for bringing an item on the day Please do not allow children to carry glass bottles in the playground – these can be left by an adult in the school office or with the PTA box on the playground on Friday 12th May.

Friday 5th May – chocolate (thank you for your donations!) Friday 12th May – bottles Friday 19th May – cakes

The Spring fair will take place in school on Saturday 20th May from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. All are welcome!

Breakfast Club and Tesco

In order to promote our Breakfast Club we will be holding a ‘Big Breakfast’ week, beginning Monday 19th June. All are welcome to join us for a FREE breakfast from 8.30 – 9.00 each day of that week, in the school hall. You will have the chance to see our Breakfast Club in action, and to sit to enjoy (an extra!) breakfast with your child.

The food for this event is kindly being provided by Tesco, who are sponsoring our breakfast club by supplying cereals, juices, milk, cereal bars and fruit each week.

SATS week

This week is SATS week for our Year 6 pupils. We wish them luck in these national assessments – they have been well prepared by Mr Hewitt and have been working hard all year in the run up to these tests.

Year 2 pupils will be taking their SATS as part of normal classroom practice over the next few weeks.

Year 1 Phonics Screening test during the week beginning Monday 12th June.

Please ensure that your children are in school for these important national tests. As ever their attendance at school should be above 95%, as set down as the target for attendance by the government.

We have been informed by the Derby Diocese Academy Trust (DDAT) that we will not be converting to an academy until 1st September due to the general election.

The conversion to an academy has to be signed off by a member of parliament, and as currently there are no MPs in parliament, only candidates, there is no one available to sign off our conversion.

We will keep you updated as soon as we have any further news.

Thank you to the parents and grandparents who joined us for the parents and carers meetings with DDAT last term. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact school and we will try to answer them for you.

Parent Governor Vacancy

We currently have a vacancy for a Parent Governor on the board of governors. If any parent would like to apply for this, please contact Di in the office for a nomination pack.

With thanks for your continued support.
